My heart breaks every time I hear of Canned Lion Hunting , Poaching or Hunting. Humans are so heartless when it comes to canned lion hunting they breed tawny lions, they rear them and shear all their claws off and keep them until they are at an age where they allow hunters on their land who pay the owner of the Lion money to shoot the lion, below is a picture of Tawny lions. Tawny Lions are not facing extinction, but many are breeding them specifically for CANNED LION HUNTING.A sad story regarding the this male lion in the picture -he was sold to a canned lion hunting farm , his claws were all sheared off , thankfully the Lion and Rhino nature reserve heard of this and bought the male and brought him to this reserve, he shares a camp with the female Lion on the right called Leahr, she also has a story of her own, which apparently you can google using her name -- it will tell you that Leahr was a lion who comes from a Zoo in Rome she lived her life on a concrete slab, before the zoo, she had a owner who used to keep her in his flat and he fed her spaghetti, she then got too big and he could no longer keep her, he then sold/ gave Leahr to the zoo where she lived her life on a concrete slab still eating only spaghetti, the Rhino and Lion nature reserve then Bought Leahr and brought her to the Rhino and Lion nature reserve in the beginning they fed her spaghetti, they then introduced her to mince so she had a combination of spaghetti bolognaise , they then managed to get her onto raw meat and they can successfully say that she now only eats raw meat.
I think her life now is so much more fulfilled as she now has her own natural massive enclosure. Another important and Awesome thing about the Lion and Rhino nature reserve is that they don’t breed the tawny lions as they were saying that it costs R8000 to rear a tawny lion and R50 000 to allow it being shot in the canned lion hunting they are against canned lion hunting and keep all their tawny lions on contraceptives .
I’m so excited- I just can't hide it – I’m about to lose control and I think I Like it – Indeed these were the words I was singing and dancing to when Neil and I decided to go to the Rhino and Lion nature reserve, reason why I was so excited is I have such a passion for Cats and cubs and when hearing that there were 5 week old lion and tiger cubs, I couldn’t control myself or contain myself as I was so delighted.
We arrived at the Nature reserve and we were given an itinerary – Wow, there is so much to do and see first up was the Lion and Cheetah and Wild dog feed.
Next was the Bengal tiger talk and play and Tiger swimming at the animal crèche , here is where the little cubs were that you can hold and play with - I must say as cute as they are they love to bite and chew especially your ankles hands and arms. Next was the live snake display which was really informative they too showed us the fangs of the venomous puff adder.
There to is a reptile park on site and the Black Mamba as seen below is housed there.
Next was the Cheetah Run, it was really great to see enrichment programmes like these introduced so encourage exercise and interaction. I was amazed to see how fast the Cheetah runs as you never really get to see something like that all the time. Next was the white tiger and white Lion talk, which was really interesting there were 3 white lion cubs 2 of which were tame Nyala and Zazu and the third cub was a wild cub whose name was Shamwari – Shamwari’s story was a sad story let me share it with you as I am sure you are wondering why is a wild cub in a Nature Reserve.
At the Shamwari Game Reserve, Shamwari’s Mother and Father were both shot by poachers- leaving Shamwari abandoned all alone in the wild Shamwari would never have survived as the cub would have become food for the bigger predators. Shamwari is still very wary of man and doesn’t come close to the animal trainer unlike Nyala and Zazu who run and pounce and jump and play with the animal trainer. Shamwari just watches from a distance there is hope that Nyala and Zazu can help tame Shamwari.
We to were advised that the Nature reserve is going to have 2 brand new latest additions Jaguar Cubs , I simply cant wait to go back and see the new arrivals , I too will probably be keeping you updated with a lot more information packed enteries regarding this Nature reserve and this week I am going to get in touch with the reserve so that I can become a volunteer nothing would make me happier that to spend time with these cubs and cats and to play and give them loads of love I can promise you one thing that will be a lot more fulfilling than wasting a day at the shopping malls.
I finally got it - it feels marvellous, fantastic, incredible... Okay let me fill you in, I finally understand photography, look- I am still a total novice and I have AN enormous long way to go , however, I am feeling rather elated about the fact that I am actually grasping the aperture and shutter speed and am able to set it correctly which in turn makes me feel like I have finally achieved the concept... Good-bye point and shoot and hallo Manual Nikon FM2, I think the 2 of us will become GOOD friends...
Aggggggghhh!!!!, why why why??... Picture this - you are hung over from a late-nite drinking spree, you still having sweet dreams, not realising that the morning sun is rising- its still really early and this most annoying banging starts , the noise sounds like a builder someone who is constantly bashing something down... then the neighborhoods dogs start barking , then the bashing gets into every part of you.... WHY is there always something or someone out there to annoy you whilst you're trying to have a good ole rest !!!!!
Its a Sunday morning the neighborhood is still asleep, when all of a sudden this terrible scream appears out of no-where...so infuriating and annoying it continues on, Neil gets up out of bed opens our blinds and has a scouting look he decides to go and see where the screaming is coming from.. Closing the front door behind him thank-goodness), I remain in bed for not even 5 minutes when all of a sudden I see through my bedroom window this women running up our stairs in the most hideous pink outfit screaming and and crying, she arrives on our balcony peering into my bedroom-I got such a fright as clearly she didnt seem well at all, she was carrying on like a fish wife, literally harassing me. I couldnt open my door and run out as she was totally beside herself she probably would of overpowered me and run into my house- who knows the destruction she could of caused, not knowing this woman from a bar of soap I immediatly shut my blinds on her, she was completely off her tree, living in a townhouse we were on the second floor (plus minus 2.5meters above ground)she then attempted to climb on to our window sill, I noticed she desparately wanted to get in my house, I was so concerned that she would break my bedroom window to try and get in, I decided to put some music on to block her out, alas this did not work, I then went back to my bedroom and had a peek through my blinds, I hear Neil screaming Marlé don't let her in,she was carrying on like a crazy person on my balcony for about 45 minutes. I decided to call the police as this was really getting out of hand, once again I peeked through the blinds, she was sitting outside on my windowsill she saw me peek and oh boy I couldnt take her screaming anymore I asked her to please leave me alone, she said that "they" are going to kill her I responded with whose "they" she pointed to all the people down below ( hehehe the people from the complex who were standing and watching this entire scenario) - I then clearly knew that this women had definately lost the plot, I decided to go and bath as I had to have somekind of distraction-- please note that no police arrived as yet!! I got out the bath got dressed and could hear that this women was still up to something as she was still on my balcony, still screaming and crying she however sounded like she was up to something, alas I heard a different kind of noise.. Suddenly a knock appears at my front door "whose there" I shout apprehensively, "Its Neil a voice says - I respond with where is the crazy lady- he says "she jumped" I open the door and look over my balcony down to the ground - Yup she jumped alright- but she aint dead, how on earth did she think she was going to commit suicide from 2.5m ( HA HA HA it was the craziest thing I had ever seen) and being the big girl she was (oh my greatness this was hectic )she continues with her outburts , I am sure this lady was under the influence of something FINALLY the ambulance arrived - Oh my shattered nerves the police arrive as well, after all of that commotion Neil and I witness all the damage this women caused outside our home she ripped out our poor aspiring chillies and literally stood on our weber braai busting our dear little braai did she really think that she could use our braai as ladder to get up our roof and then jump??? I admit with a HUGE sigh of relief I was SOOO glad when all of it was over.
Oooo la la... I have something rather exciting to share - Hmmm. Now let me see where shall I begin,.. Ahh... yes, at the beginning of course, hehehe..
I have recently just arrived back from the most stunning most relaxing and most amazing trip to Cape Town, but wait for it there is more : ) we went down to Cape Town via luxury train and yes, I am smiling whilst I reminise, I kinda wish I was still on the train as the experience was so phenomenal, I truly recommend it to anyone, think of it this way - your holiday starts the moment you climb on board- now how Wikkid is that!!
After 26 hours and a fabulous trip filled with lots of laughter and video clips, we eventually arrived at the heart of Cape Town, I look up and 'Oh Boy! ' I see this majestical beauty in front of me - Yup... "the Mountain", Its kinda undescrible when you see it in real life it really took my breath away!! The stunning beaches with the white sea sand that somewhat felt like baby powder between my toes whilst taking a stroll.... YiKeS... The water was Freezing and I mean that with a Capital F, ahhh, but who cares as long as I could sweep my feet through the water- I was happy and content.
Oh yes, of course, the famous Chapmans Peak had to be tried and tested, the scenery and the views are truly mes-merising (Hmmm... excuse me whilst I day dream for a while...) Okay, okay let me not digress, my first thought of the aqaurium is the unemotional turtle - man, HE ROCKED! just swiming around with no care in the world- wish I could be like that somedays : )
I must say the next time I go to Cape Town, I would truly hope to experience the shark diving Adventure - sure I had the thought of - Oh Boy I'm gonna POOP in my pants, hehehe - but for me it's a challenge that I would LOVE TO CONQUER.
Boy, I have just realised how long this entry is, and if I carry on writing anymore this entry could just very well just become a theasus (HA HA) only kidding..
Welcome to another day in the life of Marle -here you will find my world- filled with Happiness, Laughter, Gratitude, Craziness, and a genuine case of paranoia - especially about things that are not even worth stressing or worrying about .... Imagine this.... close your eyes and think of eating a Ferrero Rosher and slowly uncovering the hidden flavours and layers ... Yes yes!! I truly agree its something rather intriguing, delightfully similar to me
